The cutting die or screen is mounted, the machine is threaded, and the first samples are run to confirm the print and the dimensions. This setup takes time and consumes labor on a machine that could otherwise be running a larger order. On a printed tote order a screen setup commonly runs 150 to 350 dollars, and the changeover takes 2 to 3 hours of machine time. A standard woven PP roll may carry a set linear length, and a design in a specific width leaves offcut waste at the edges. A custom color, whether on the fabric or on the print, is matched to a dye lot, and the dye process produces a minimum usable batch. The factory matches the sample to a tolerance, commonly 3 to 5 percent, and a partial batch or a re-dye to hit the color uses extra dye and labor. The smallest feasible dye quantity can be larger than the smallest practical order size, so a custom color raises the effective MOQ even when the bag itself could be produced in fewer numbers.<\/p>\n<p>This is why a standard stock color line has a much lower MOQ than a Pantone-matched line. The stock roll is already on the shelf, so no dye setup is added.<\/p>\n<h2>Labour, yield and scheduling: the line has to be worth running<\/h2>\n<p>A factory runs on throughput. A sewing line that runs a 200-piece order in the morning and then stops for the next setup spends more time changing over than producing. The overhead of the building, the machines, and the supervisors is spread over the total output, so a plant running small orders at 60 percent utilization charges more per bag than one running longer runs at around 80 to 90 percent.
